As part of the 70th anniversary celebration of Hengchun Christian Hospital, the hospital partnered with MacKay Medical University to host a "Little Doctor Experience Camp" on July 16. Nearly 200 children from the Hengchun area and the hospital's after-school program participated in the event. Sixteen medical students from MacKay Medical University planned and led the activities, helping children learn essential health knowledge while inspiring compassion and respect for life.
During the event, the children put on white coats and used stethoscopes, transforming into "little doctors" for the day. Guided by the medical students, they participated in a series of interactive learning stations covering wound care, triangular bandage application, and proper cooling techniques for injuries and fever management. Through engaging, hands-on activities, the children learned how to care for themselves and others while becoming more familiar with healthcare settings, helping to reduce anxiety and fear associated with hospitals and medical treatment. Dr. Po-Jen Cheng, a long-time supporter of Hengchun Christian Hospital's after-school program, also returned from the United States to take part in the event.
Dr. Chien-Jung Huang, Superintendent of Hengchun Christian Hospital, noted that the hospital aims not only to provide high-quality medical care but also to serve as an important partner in community health education. He shared that becoming a physician had been his childhood dream, and that dedicating his life to protecting the health of others represents the realization of that dream through perseverance and determination. He encouraged the children to pursue their own aspirations with courage and persistence, believing that their goals can also become reality.
Hengchun Christian Hospital emphasized that, throughout its 70-year history, it has remained committed to safeguarding the health of people in Taiwan's southernmost region. Beyond continuously improving medical services, the hospital has actively promoted health education and community outreach. Looking ahead, the hospital will continue working alongside local communities through diverse health initiatives, ensuring that healthcare extends beyond treating illness to becoming a lasting force for community connection, education, and compassionate care.
