MacKay Medical University Signs Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of Medical Sciences, Mongolian Academy of Sciences, Advancing Collaborative Research on Healthy Aging and Cardiovascular Disease Prevention
To expand its international academic collaboration network and promote research on healthy aging and the prevention of chronic diseases, President Hung-I Yeh of MacKay Medical University (MMU), Dean Yih-Jer Wu of the College of Medicine, and Dr. Cheng-Huang Su from the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at MacKay Memorial Hospital visited leading academic institutions in Mongolia from late July to early August 2026. During the visit, MMU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Institute of Medical Sciences, Mongolian Academy of Sciences. Through this partnership, both institutions will combine their respective research strengths to advance collaborative studies on Healthy Aging and Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, enhancing research capacity and international academic impact in both Taiwan and Mongolia.
The collaboration, jointly initiated by the College of Medicine at MacKay Medical University and the Institute of Medical Sciences, Mongolian Academy of Sciences, encompasses a wide range of academic activities, including joint research projects, faculty and researcher exchanges, graduate student training, the organization of international symposia, and collaborative scientific publications. Through this cross-border partnership, the two institutions aim to integrate expertise in medicine, biotechnology, public health, and clinical medicine to address the health challenges posed by global population aging and the growing burden of chronic diseases.
Healthy aging has become one of the world's most significant public health priorities, while cardiovascular disease remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Developing effective preventive medicine strategies, precision health approaches, and lifestyle interventions to delay aging and reduce disease risk has become a major focus of international medical research. Through this collaboration, both institutions intend to establish mechanisms for sharing research resources and data, develop healthy aging strategies tailored to Asian populations, and jointly promote research on the early prevention of cardiovascular disease, risk factor analysis, biomarker discovery, and community-based health promotion. The partnership also seeks to translate research outcomes into clinical practice and public health policy.
MacKay Medical University has long been committed to excellence in medical education, clinical research, and international collaboration. In recent years, the University has actively advanced research in smart healthcare, precision health, geriatric medicine, and interdisciplinary medical sciences. Establishing this partnership with the Institute of Medical Sciences, Mongolian Academy of Sciences not only marks a new milestone in Taiwan–Mongolia medical research collaboration but also strengthens the research capabilities of both institutions while cultivating medical professionals with a global perspective.
Looking ahead, the two institutions will continue to deepen their collaboration by pursuing international joint research funding, promoting bilateral research partnerships and academic exchanges, and establishing a long-term international research alliance. Together, they aim to generate innovative contributions to healthy aging and cardiovascular disease prevention while demonstrating MacKay Medical University's ongoing commitment to strengthening global engagement, enhancing academic excellence, and fulfilling its mission of social responsibility.
